Caroline Mary (French) Wallace born 7 October 1928 at 2:30 p.m. in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Known for five decades as Caroline Marie until a replacement birth certificate showed Mary. Nicknames: Harhine, Carrie, and Bank of Newfoundland. Astrological sign Libra. In her birth year of 1928 women got the vote in the UK. On her date but in 1931 Rt. Rev. Desmond Mpilo Tutu b., first black bishop of Johannesburg and 1984 Nobel Peace Prize winner. Caroline married Howie 14 June 1952 when naval nurse Halifax. As homemaker had ten pregnancies in 12 years, nine surviving. Returned to work force 1980-93 where she was highly regarded; known mostly as Mom. Likes travel. Howard Carew Joseph Wallace b. 20 March 1929 (before midnight) Saint John, New Brunswick. Nickname Howie. Pisces/Aries cusp. The 1929 Wall Street stock market crash cut parents’ ad firm revenue a third before things worsened. On his date in 1890 however, tenors Beniamino Gigli, Italian, and Lauritz Melchoir, Dane, were born. Howie had leadership roles in Scouts, Army and Sea Cadets, RCN Reserve. Like parents worked in Halifax Mail. Began 26-year fulltime naval career 1949, mostly in public affairs.

Marita b. 19 December 1953 at 2:53 a.m. Ottawa, Ont. Our first child took Confir-mation name Bernadette for a second name. Nickname Dita. Sagittarius. In her year the Korean War ceasefire began, on her date in 1915 chanteuse Edith Piaf (née Edith Giovan-na Gassion) was born. Her stage name was Parisian argot for Little Sparrow. Dita was early into high tech, now doing writing, editing and instructing for Kodak in B. C.

Duncan Gerard b. 13 March 1955 at 11:30 p.m. Ottawa. Nickname Nino. Pisces. In his year died Jesuit priest/philosopher and paleontologist Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (1881-1955). On Duncan’s date in 1781 German-born astronomer William Herschel dis-covers planet Uranus, naming it Georgium Sides to honour King George III. Knighted Sir William. Duncan has devoted life to research, leavened by sports.

Stephen Gregory b. evening of 3 March 1956 Ottawa making him same age as Duncan 10 days every year. Nickname Ste. Pisces. In his year Britain, France and Israel cause Suez crisis leading to formation of United Nations Emergency Force [in which I served for five months 1966/67]. On Steve’s day in 1847 Alexander Graham Bell was born Scot-land. He invented important stuff in Baddeck, Cape Breton, as well as in USA. Mary Clare died in wife’s womb in autumn 1956 while I’m up North on Mid-Canada Line construction, second line of defence against threat of aerial invaders over the Arctic. Near year’s end we take in Hungarian refugee doctors Janos and Eva Furesz, son Peter until they can find their feet in Ottawa. Eva’s architect sister Agnes Boros and rural relative Lydia Udvari, housekeeper, catch up. Furesz daughter born later named Marita to honour ours. Christopher Kevin b. 7 Dec. 1957 at 7:28 p.m. Ottawa. Nickname Chris. Sagittarius. In his birth year Soviets launch space explorer Sputnik. On Chris’ birth date in 1941 Ja-panese naval aircraft sneak-bombed Pearl Harbour, Hawaii, bringing USA into Second World War. Highest I. Q. in family had mind of his own from Day One. Florist, angler, newspaper circulation drummer Western Canada.

Catherine Anne b. 30 March 1959 at 10:17 a.m. Halifax. Nickname Cacky. Aries. That year Cyprus, eastern Mediterranean island populated with antagonistic Greek and Turkish descendants, joined British Commonwealth. UN peacekeeping continues there. On artistic Catherine’s birth date, world-class painters were born; Spaniard Jose de Goya y Lucientes 1746, and Dutchman Vincent Willem Van Gogh 1853. Like my parents, Catherine devoted years to high-profile advertising then qualified as occupational thera-pist. Ran 2008 Boston Marathon.

Caroline Jr. Margaret b. 24 August 1960 at 2:50 a.m. Halifax. Gaelic pet name Peigi she rejected. Virgo. Zestful youngster, highest I.Q. of our girls, turned off school, but magnificently regrouped. Vietnam War broke out her birth year with profound effect on campus and schoolyard in Canada as in USA, anglophone and francophone alike. On Saint Bartholomew’s Day in France of 1572 up to 50,000 Huguenots were massacred. Our Carews, Catholic Irish immigrants to Canada, had much earlier been Protestant ancestors in France who took refuge in England according to family tradition. Became social worker interrupted by day caring nieces and nephew who all love her dearly since.

Barnaby John b. 21 January 1962 at 1:50 a.m. Halifax. Nickname Barney. Aquarius. That year Second Vatican Council began. On Barney’s day in 1940 winningest golfer Jack Nicklaus born USA. Barnaby overcame sickly earlier years to become a high school Wall of Fame athlete, member national junior rugger champions of Canada, also played in England. A director at Coca-Cola headquarters, started own business in Atlanta, Georgia, marketing products of inventors, then joined Clorox corporation as their man in Atlanta..

Matthew b. 7 September 1963 early night Ottawa. Nickname Matt. Virgo. This was year U. S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. On Matt’s birth date but in 1917 valorous Group Captain Leonard Cheshire VC was b. After this bomber pilot left Royal Air Force he founded homes for sick. Matthew was high school football and rugger captain, wrestler, black belts martial artist, also learned to fly. He overcame auditory response problem to be unexpected man of letters and at universities in Lebanon and Ottawa became computer scientist. Office manager Ottawa bio science security.

Cecily Pascale b. 10 April 1965 at 8:10 p.m. Ottawa. Pasquale to brothers. Aries. Her year war broke out between India and Pakistan. On Cecily’s birth date but 1912 White Star liner Titanic began tragic maiden voyage. Baby of family chosen Ottawa Youth of 1983; involved with women’s shelters, welfare work then public affairs at children’s hospital then Royal College Physicians and Surgeons.

Sophie Thérèse Colette Gauvin, b. 5 Mar. 1964 Montreal. Brought into our circle by our #3 daughter Caroline years ago. Pisces. On Sophie’s birthday English actor Rex Harrison (1908-90) born. In her birth year England passed race relations legislation, the U. S. a civil rights act. Sophie,just above five-foot-eight is brown-eyed brunette. Was stage artist in theatre and does glass painting. Became social worker where she and Car-line met. Slowed by multiple sclerosis, Sophie keeps mind nimble winning media contests. When up to it, she helped at Caroline’s day care and joins our family gatherings.

Marie Lucie Rolande Bazinet b. late 28 September 1955 Ottawa. Libra. In Lucie’s year Bandung Conference of Third World Nations was held. On her day but in 1934 French movie actress and conservationist Brigitte Bardot was born. Lucie and Ste com-mitted their lives to foreign aid work while raising Marie-Pierre and Eli overseas and in Gatineau hills. Tree huggers when time.

Christopher on 29 May 1981 in Ottawa married:
Debbie Ann Forget b. 10:50 a.m. 6 April 1961 Thessalon, Ont. Libra. In Debbie’s year the Berlin Wall was erected, and on her day but in 1874 escape artist Harry Houdini was born Eric Weiss in Appleton, Wisconsin. Marriage broke up 2006 and their son, Corrie Christopher, joined parents in building up newspaper circulation teams in Alberta, based in Calgary.

Catherine Anne on 15 Sept. 1995 in Ottawa married:
David Alexander Smith born near 5 a.m. 9 Jan. 1963 Ottawa. Capricorn. His year the Hitchcock movie The Birds debuted, and on Dave’s day but in 1941 folksinger/activist Joan Baez was born. Dave guitar buff. His all nighters produce clever graphics, advert-ising gems, not to mention daughter Natalie, and Kaitlin from his previous marriage.

Caroline Jr. on 12 July 1997 in Ottawa married:
William Alexander Stanislaus Rothery b. 22 September 1948 [hour unknown] as Wayne Francis Collins, Vancouver. Nickname Billo. Virgo. That year the West began Berlin Airlift of essential supplies when access blocked by Russian army occupiers. On Bill’s day but in 1791 English scientist Michael Faraday was born: the farad unit of electrical capacity bears his name. His articulate mechanic’s hands keep Rothery and Wallace apparatus in good running order. He and Caroline separated 2007.

Uta Jürissen b. 26 November 1967 at 9:20 p.m. in Emsdettin, Germany. Sagittarius. In Uta’s birth year Dr. Christiaan N. Barnard of South Africa performed first human heart transplant. Lily Fayad b. afternoon 7 December 1964 Ottawa. Childhood nickname Tonto. Sagit-tarius. In her year Britain proclaims its first race relations act. On her day but in 1863 Italian composer Pietro Mascagni born, best known for his opera Cavalleria Rusticana. Lily worked with Canadian team in Beirut part of 1998-99 setting up Lebanon’s first full-service postal system, Matt joining her and continuing university courses. Their children are MacKenzie and Kayla.

John Michael Harder né Lieskovsky b. 8 June 1962 in Blairmore, Alta. Gemini. That year Third World War biggest scare due to Cuban missile crisis: Soviets blinked first. On John’s day but in 1810 German composer Robert Schuman was born. His widow Clara pianist/composer perpetuated his keyboard compositions on international tours. In 1998 Ottawa John fathered Jasmine, their first, became fulltime teacher, they buy first house, then have Allegra. They separated 2007, daughters visit each home.

Marie-Pierre Katsina Wallace b. 28 December 1978 at 11:55 p.m. in Katsina, Nigeria. Byname there was Mariama, here Mary. Capricorn. In her year the first test-tube baby was born. On her day Woodrow Wilson (1856-1924) came into the world, the U.S. pre-sident who took his country into the Great War. He supported the League of Nations concept but couldn’t sell it back home. Articulate Mary third world health minded graduated McGill, Ottawa universities. Works in federal health.
Eli Edgar Bazinet Wallace b. at home 27 April 1981 at 5 p.m. Gloucester, Ont. Nickname Elly. Scorpio. In Eli’s year Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, Nobel Peace Prize recipient, is assassinated by religious fundamentalists. Born on Eli’s day but in 1737 was Edward Gibbon, author of The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. On Corrie’s day but in 1875 John Buch-an was born Scotland. Novelist/historian Lord Tweedsmuir was governor general Canada 1935-40, dying Montreal. Virgo. Blonde, affable Corrie inherited good looks of each parent.                                                                                                               Charlotte Olivia Margot Wallace b.7 Apr. 2011 at North York General Hospital, Toronto, to Christopher’s second missus, Melissa Tabitha Thelma Davey. At 7 lbs, 11 ounces, little Charlotte almost a whole day to arrive. She’s grown into a blonde haired, blue eyed beauty like her older half-brother Corrie.                                                         Howard Thomas William Wallace, b. 16 Sept, 2013 to Melissa Davey at Mt Sinai hospital in Toronto. He was a high risk delivery, spending his first few months at Sick Kids children’s hospital nearby. Howard Carew Wallace had five sons and young baby Howie was named for him and his grandfather. He also carries the name of our founding immigrant as well as the Son of Scotland’s name, William. Howie has Hollywood good looks to boot,

On her day but in 1912 Odette Hallowes was born and became a heroine of Second World War in France. German occupiers captured, tortured her for being secret agent. On Carrie’s day but in 1894 Serbian student Gavrilo Princip was born. His assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and wife at Sarajevo in 1914 triggered First World War. Pet-caring Carrie studied acting, photography in spare time and, after early child education at Algonquin community col-lege works in dare care.
Jessie Lee Bernadette Wallace b. 8:31 a.m. 6 August 1981 Ottawa. Leo. In Jessie’s birth year ex-movie star and conservative California governor Ronald Reagan became 40th president of the USA. On her birthday but in 1945 the first city to be atom bombed was Hiroshima, Japan. In Gavin’s year Northern Ireland was struggling to make peace, India and Pakistan were again at loggerheads over Kashmir and genocide continued to be unearthed in former Yugoslavia. Allegra Patricia Carew Wallace Harder b. 12:05 p.m. 24 April 2002 Ottawa, 8 lb. 14 oz. On Allegra’s day but in 1934 American eccentric and movie actress Shirley MacLaine is born and singer/actress Barbra Streisand in ‘42. The Irish national movement’s Easter Rebellion began Easter Monday 1916 in Dublin. Irish poet W. B.
