CANADIAN WALLACES
Founded by our common ancestor, Thomas Wallace, the Canadian Wallaces and their kin are spread all over the continent. Thomas Wallace fought in the Napoleonic Peninsular Wars on behalf of the British Crown before joining many others in the resistance to American hegemony that became known as the War of 1812. It’s likely he sailed past the very shores upon which he later settled. Then known as Oshawa Village, Thomas began a two hundred year legacy of progress for us there. Some of that history is contained here, more will certainly follow.
You are invited to explore the various sections of the Catalog of Kin, a compilation of facts and historical background materials researched and written by Howard Carew Wallace, Chief and Patriarch of the Ottawa Clan Wallaces. In it you will find information about many of our relations, more will be added as time passes. It is a monumental gift to this family to have this work represented here.
The visual records available in our photo gallery can give you a sense of our contemporary history. We’ll also include albums of all the branches of the family we can locate and gather. In time, a more complete ancestral record of our genealogy may find its way to these pages. There will also be a place for some whimsy at the Bard’s Scriptorium, in the form of poetry and stories, letters and observations.
Our family motto is True and Free. As a clan, we celebrate and defend truth and freedom. You can read about how we arrived at this catchy phrase that encompasses so much of our clan spirit in some of the letters found here. A complete record of our journey to a family coat of arms will follow.
Thank you to all who continue to make this site possible by their commitment to family and clan.
True and Free!
